How to measure mechanical seal spring compression amount? Use a ruler directly! Firstly measure the telescopic amount of spring of mechanical seal in a free state（A）, then measure that of the mechanical seal installed in place（B）. The subtracting result of A and B is the mechanical seal’s compression amount.

There is no need to determine compression amount when cartridge mechanical seals are referred to , because it is set before the entire seal is ready to run. In meantime, measurements should be done as per different types of pumps while non-cartridge mechanical seals are referred to.

Compression amount of single spring mechanical seal is 50%—70%,the multi-spring is 90%. At the same time, it is also necessary to consider width of sealing surface, strength of spring, and state of force during operation.

Need to adjust spring compression is to satisfy the need of controlling spring ratio, regardless of whether it is a single spring or a multi-spring mechanical seal. A typical pump mechanical seal spring compression amount is substantially controlled at 0.3—2.8kgrf / cm2. The best value should be less based on the actual conditions, and the surface-assisted sealing rings, the compensation of the ring-assisted seal structure, and should be adapted to the cargo coefficient K value.
