Mechanical seal seal ring hot setting operation guide
1.Scope of application
This guide is applicable to rotary faces & stationary seats of inlaid mechanical seal and non-standard mechanical seals that require hot inlaying whose assembly interference is greater than or equal to H7/v6, (such as H7/v6, H7/x6, H7 /y6, H7/z6) .
2.Operating procedures
(1)Preparation for hot mounting
Prepare component drawings of the mechanical seal, related parts drawings and hot-fitted parts drawings according to production requirements.
Visually inspect the mounting area to ensure there is no damage and clean the said part. Dry and set aside.
(2)Precautions for mounting
In order to prevent excessively deep tempering color on the surface of metal parts, the heating time of the ring seats of the mechanical seals in the furnace should not be too long, usually about 30 minutes.
The ring seats of the mechanical seals cannot be stacked in the furnace, and the mounting area should be upward when placed.
(3)The sealing rings of the mechanical seals are graphite:
Heating temperature of the ring seat of the mechanical seal is generally controlled within the range of 250℃~300℃.
Control of ring seat heating degree:
Diameter D≦250mm, the heating degree should be that the setting ring just enters the ring seat.
Diameter D>250mm, heat to 300℃ for about 30 minutes, put the ring into the ring seat of the mechanical seal and pressurize it immediately to make the ring and the supporting surface of the ring seat evenly contact.
(4)Tungsten carbide and silicon carbide rings
Ring seat of the mechanical seal heating temperature are dependant on the particular materials: various types of austenitic stainless steel, duplex steel, HastB/C: 350℃~400℃; titanium material: 450℃~500℃; The heating temperature is related to the diameter D of the ring seat. The upper limit is taken when D≦100mm, and the lower limit is taken when D>100mm.
(5)MFL type ring seat made of 4J42
In order to avoid reprocessing on the ring seat after mounting, (because the welding tip cannot be welded for finishing turning) the hot mounting procedure for tungsten carbide and silicon carbide is as follows:
The heating temperature of the ring seat is 240℃~290℃; use a pressing machine (pressure 0.5t~1.5t) to press the insert ring into the ring seat of the mechanical seal. Note: A support ring is added to the surface of the ring seat welding nozzle, the inlaid ring is below, and the bottom surface is protected by a polished support plate. After the component has cooled, check the gap between the bearing surface and the insert ring of the mechanical seal.
(6) Insert rings for high-pressure mechanical seals (carbon graphite and silicon carbide rings)
For all ring seats and insert rings used for high-pressure mechanical seals, their supporting surfaces need to be ground and mounted under pressure in a (hydraulic) pressing machine. Attention should be paid to selecting the supporting gasket suitable for the ring seat and the insert ring of the mechanical seal.
If the mounting pressure is indicated on the drawing, after the mounting parts of the mechanical seals reach the specified level in the pressing machine, the pressure should be kept for 2 to 5 minutes for large batches of parts, and for single parts and large-diameter parts (diameter D>100mm), the pressure should be kept for 10 minutes. .
If the mounting pressure is not indicated on the drawing of the mechanical seal the following provisions are valid: Diameter D<50mm, pressure 2~5t. Diameter D=50~100mm, pressure 5~10t. Diameter D>100mm, pressure 10~25t. Depending on the size of the ring, the holding time in the pressing machine is 2 to 10 minutes.
3.Measures after installation
(1)Check the gap between the supporting surface and the insert ring. Use a 0.02mm feeler gauge to check the gap between the supporting surface of the ring seat and the back of the ring of the mechanical seal. For parts that can be inserted with the feeler gauge, repressurization is required to eliminate the gap; for parts that still fail to meet the requirements after repressurization, the insert ring should be removed and the supporting surface should be reprocessed.
(2)Use sealant to seal the gaps at the joints. All seams exisiting on the insert rings of the mechanical seal must be sealed with sealant. (This work is performed during the hot mounting process, when the component temperature drops to 80°C to 100°C.)
4.Aging and stress relief treatment
(1)For high-pressure mechanical seal rings, mounting rings with asymmetric distribution of milling gaps or large gap sizes, in order to reduce the residual stress during the hot mounting process, they must be stored for at least one week for aging treatment after mounting, and then ground and polished to make the seal surface flatness meets the drawing requirements of the mechanical seals.
(2)If the production cycle allows, the tungsten carbide-mounted ring should be stored for aging treatment for one week after mounting, and then ground and polished to improve the reliability of its sealing performance of the mechanical seal.
(3)All hot-fitted sealing rings of the mechanical seal (except those that have been aged) must be stress relieved. The specific operation method is: place the mounted assembly in the oven, raise the temperature to 120°C, and leave it at this temperature for at least 8 hours. (Keep it in the oven overnight if possible)
