Background:
Performance comparison between single end face and double end face
1. Single end mechanical seal, as the name suggests, has only one sealing friction pair, while double end mechanical seal, as the name suggests, has two sealing friction surfaces.
Single end face sealing structure is simple, easy to manufacture and install, generally suitable for conditions where the medium itself has good lubricity and allows for trace leakage. It is a commonly used sealing type, and should not be used when the medium is toxic, flammable, explosive, or has strict requirements for leakage.
2. Double end face seals include axial double end face seals and radial double end face seals. The double end face sealing structure arranged radially is more compact than the axial double end face sealing. Double end sealing is suitable for media with poor lubricity, toxicity, flammability, explosiveness, volatility, abrasive particles, and gases.
3. The principle is basically the same as that of a single end mechanical seal, which is a device that prevents fluid leakage by keeping the end face (friction pair) perpendicular to the rotation axis in contact and sliding relative to each other under the action of fluid pressure and compensation mechanism elasticity, as well as the cooperation of auxiliary seals. When the double end mechanical seal structure is in operation, under the combined force of fluid pressure (medium pressure) and the elastic force of the elastic element, an appropriate specific pressure (clamping force) is generated on the end face of the sealing ring, so that the two contact end faces (dynamic ring, static ring end face) are tightly adhered to each other, and a very thin liquid film is maintained in the extremely small gap between the two end faces, thus achieving the purpose of sealing. Double end mechanical seals have two end seals. If the first seal fails, the second seal can still seal to prevent leakage. Generally, double end seals require an external sealing fluid system to introduce sealing fluid into the sealing chamber for sealing, lubrication, and cooling, and are mostly used for circulating cooling. Sealing fluid can not only flush the friction pair to improve the working environment of mechanical seals, but also act as a primary sealing surface to determine if it has failed.
