How to control the deformation of mechanical seal

  In order to avoid the influence of the deformation of the sealing surface of the mechanical seal, efforts should be made to control the deformation and take improvement measures. Usually, stress grooves can be opened on the structure or the cross-sectional shape of the sealing ring can be changed to eliminate the influence of deformation, and the sealing ring structure with the radially parallel end faces is adopted. In addition, in order to reduce the influence of deformation, stress grooves are often opened at a distance from the sealing surface.

The thermal deformation and/or force deformation of the mechanical seal causes a small amount of leakage or even aggravated leakage and inability to work of the seal. In order to try to control the deformation of the mechanical seal, the following principles should be paid attention to in the design and use:

①Deformation coordination is a good design principle to achieve net zero deformation of mechanical seal;

② Stress relief (stress release) is an effective method to solve the deformation;

③ Compatible material coordination is the first principle to consider when selecting materials;

 ④ Consider adopting effective heat dissipation, cooling and flushing methods from the entire sealing system;

⑤Although deformation is inevitable, methods to control deformation must be adopted, such as flexible sealing, compensation sealing and various methods to reduce deformation.
