The emergence of new physical (including mechanical) and chemical treatment methods on surface has brought new life to mechanical seal by surface strengthening, such as surface sprayed diamond-like carbon-DLC film. Studies have shown that DLC film is a new type of hard lubricating film material. The main disadvantage of its application is that the large internal stress generated during the preparation process makes the film-base bond poorly, and the film thickness is limited, which hinders its special lubricating  function to be reflected under oil lubrication.The practical application  of the DLC Film have thus been seriously affected . 

Methods of multiplayer, nanoscale composite, buffer layer, composite graded and Me-DLC are commonly used to reduce internal stress and improve film-based bonding.  Among them, the Me-DLC film not only has a good effect in relieving the film stress, but also significantly changes the mechanical, friction and wear and various physical and chemical properties of the film by different metal particles and preparation methods, showing a wide range of application prospects in different fields.

In addition, O-ring seals, which have strong requirements for sliding performance and durability, have also begun to use DLC in recent years. DLC for rubber has higher requirements for softness than DLC for metals and ceramics. Therefore, for the DLC used for rubber and resin, we strive to embed cracks and wrinkles so that to allow expansion and contraction, so as to meet the expansion and contraction of the substrate.
