The surface texture mainly includes two kinds of structures: micro-pits and micro-grooves. 

In terms of micro-pit structure, Etsion and Burstein proposed laser machining of porous end-face mechanical seals in 1996, and did theoretical and experimental research to preliminarily discuss the effects of working parameters and micro-porous structure parameters on sealing performance of the mechanical seals; Liu Yijing et al. processed an array of pits on the piston skirt part, which played a role in reducing friction and wear, and the minimum friction reduction rate reached 37.8%;Yu Haiwu et al. established a hydrodynamic lubrication model with micro-dimple texture, and further improved the bearing capacity by optimizing the arrangement of the dimples

In terms of micro-groove structure, the most common one is the 45° honing mesh structure on the surface of the inner hole of the cylinder liner of the internal combustion engine; Blatter et al. processed the micro-groove structure on the surface of the sapphire wafer and tested it with a pin-disk friction tester.The test showed that the micro-groove can reduce friction and prolong the service life; Yuan et al. fabricated micro-grooves arrays on boron-copper cast iron, and by experimental studies proved that appropriate micro-groove parameters can reduce friction.
