How to design mechanical seals based upon the different characteristics of different types of reactors (Ⅱ)

07/03/2023
The reactor is a large-sized equipment, and it is necessary to install the mechanical seal on the reactor one by one. However,to ensure its accuracy, the general requirement for the structure of the mechanical seal is that it is easy to assemble and disassemble. The environmental conditions and characteristics of the mechanical seal for reactors will be analyzed in the following context.
2.Stirring shaft bottom entry reactor
The polymerization reactor has gradually developed towards a large volume type, and its stirring shaft has also changed from the top entry type to the bottom entry type. Bottom-entry reactor is characterized by short stirring shaft and small bending stress on the shaft, so the calculated shaft diameter is small, saving labor and materials. Compared with the longer shaft, the shorter shaft has better rigidity and less deformation. However, the mechanical seal is at the bottom of the reactor. Although the lubrication of the seal can be ensured, solid impurities are easy to deposit around the seal, which will cause abrasive wear on the end faces of the friction pair, and easily cause blockage and fouling of moving parts. In this case, the mechanical seal is always under the pressure of the liquid, and the contents of the reactor must be emptied when the seal needs to be repaired or replaced. When the material is a high-viscosity polymer, it is more difficult to completely empty it. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out special calculations on the mechanical seal, and to adopt special measures at the same time, so that the reactor can be expected to have good working performance and easy maintenance.
