I'm a time traveler (by means of wormholes) and also a worker in mechanical seal industry. I started a journey of time and space along the timeline of the development history of mechanical seals.
Prior to World War II
I found myself in a messy room of about 20 ㎡ where seven people were sitting or standing while doing their work manually . I recognized the work pieces in their hands are the primitive form of the parts of mechanical seals which were used in rotating shafts since I once saw them from an old book about mechanical seals in 1920's.Everything seemed so old-fashioned & boring so I left in 15 minutes. （No one found me because I am transparent when in time travelling）
The 1970s
This time I chose Shenyang City，Liaoning Province in northeast China as my next stop. There was a Shenyang Water Pump Factory Fittings Branch established in 1975，which produced Mechanical sealing parts together with Tianjin mechanical seal factory. This marked the late beginning of China’s industrial development of mechanical seals. I saw the interior view of the building supported by the thick steel structure and cement slabs. In the middle of the wide blank ground，there was a huge thing that should be a split pipeline pump used in water conservancy projects. I can clearly see the impeller inside. A worker wearing a peaked cap climbing up high were busy with something about the huge pump, another worker dressed in the same style was looking at him from a distance, and the two were talking in a northeast dialect. I walked around the factory, and I didn't see many mechanical seals. I lamented that China's mechanical seal industry really started late, and finally decided to have a look abroad in next times.
The 1990s
This time I chose the plant of John Crane, a leader in the mechanical seal industry. When I walked in, the first thing I saw was a stadium with a group of people playing football. I walked through rooms, and was very familiar with everything I saw everywhere: computer drawing, machining, drilling, assembly, quality inspection, not different from what I see every day before this time travel . Large workpieces lifted by a crane reflecting the light were shining. Walking into an office that looked like a leader’s, I saw a small microscope on the table, some small mechanical seal models on display in the cabinet, and a middle-aged man with thick curly hair was talking through his mobile phone. I turned around and around until there was nothing left to look at, and left.
