The main advantages of replacing spiral spring with wave spring
a. Axial space saving (core advantage)
The most significant advantage of wave spring is that they greatly save installation space.
In static applications, the working height of wave spring is usually only half of that of coil springs
In dynamic applications, due to the need for more turns to withstand bending stress, the working height can be reduced to about one-third of that of a coil spring
This means that the axial dimensions of the sealed cavity can be designed to be more compact

 
b. No drilling required, simplified manufacturing
When using spiral springs, multiple holes need to be drilled around the sealed housing to accommodate each spring. And the wave spring is an integral component: there is no need to drill holes on the sealed housing, reducing processing steps and lowering manufacturing costs

 
c. No torsional load, reducing wear and tear
Problem with spiral springs: Compression can generate torsional loads, which may cause the pre tensioned components to rotate during use, resulting in excessive wear and a decrease in load
The advantage of wave spring is that they only produce axial compression and do not generate torsional loads

 
d. Gentler load deformation curve
The wave spring has extremely low spring stiffness and a very flat load deformation curve
This means that when the working height changes, the change in spring force is minimal, which helps to extend the life of the sealing surface
A single multi coil wave spring can replace multiple coil springs, providing a more uniform end face load

 
e. Better structural integrity
The wave spring is made of a single flat wire without welding points
In contrast, stamped wave washers may have welding points and are prone to fracture under dynamic stress

 
f. Flexible material selection
Multiple materials such as stainless steel, Hastelloy C276 (for chemical corrosion environments), Inconel, Elgiloy (for high-temperature corrosion environments), etc. can be selected
