What factors need to be considered in the selection of mechanical seals for submersible pumps

30/06/2022
The following factors need to be considered in the selection of mechanical seals for submersible pumps:
a. Working parameters such as medium pressure, journal and rotational speed.
b. Medium characteristics, such as concentration, viscosity, corrosiveness, whether there are fixed particles and fiber impurities, whether it is easy to vaporize or crystallize, etc.
c. The working characteristics of the main engine, the working environment and the allowable leakage amount, leakage direction, life and reliability requirements of the main engine to the mechanical seal.

The third point is briefly discussed below, that is, how to choose a suitable mechanical seal considering the characteristics, the working environment and the special requirements for the mechanical seal of the submersible pump.

a.When the submersible electric pump operates in deep water or requires a high lift, the water pressure outside the motor oil chamber is high, and an external mechanical seal needs to be selected. When the submersible pump is submerged or the head is required to be low, the built-in mechanical seal can be chosen.

b.When the medium itself has good lubricity and a small amount of leakage is allowed , a single mechanical seal can be selected. When the leakage of the medium is most strictly required, a double mechanical seal should be selected.

c.When the power of the submersible electric pump is not large and the shaft extension of the rotating shaft is short (shaft diameter d=80~150mm), a single-spring mechanical seal can be selected. When the power of the submersible electric pump is large and the shaft diameter is large, the multi-spring mechanical seal should be selected because the pressure distribution of the multi-spring is relatively uniform.
