Support modes of stationary seats of mechanical seals

Stationary seat of mechanical seal is generally supported by cavity.The support mode should make the stationary seat seal reliable, that means reasonable  force and minimized deformation .Support modes of stationary seats of mechanical seals are listed as follows:
1.Floating type:
Stationary seat is supported on the sealed cavity by the compression and deformation of flexible parts (such as O-rings, etc.) and a slight movement in axial or radial directions is allowed. When sealing requirements are strict, two seals can be installed, as shown in figure (c). Anti-rotation pins should be set under high-viscosity media, high pressure and/or high-speed conditions, as shown in Figures (c) and (f). The structure made by this kind of support mode is simple with  convenient disassembly and assembly, and vibration of part of shaft and cavity can be absorbed. However, stationary seat is isolated by flexible body , which is not conducive to heat conduction.
2.Fastening type:
Stationary seat is supported mechanically. The structure made by this kind of support mode is simple and heat transfer is good. But this kind of support mode has a shortcoming:cavity vibration cannot be absorbed.
3.Mounted type:
Stationary seat is supported on cavity in Interference fit style. The structure made by this kind of support mode is simple and heat transfer is good. On the other hand,accuracy and roughness of the contacting part are strictly required, and vibration of cavity cannot be absorbed, and it is not easy to replace the sealing end face after it is worn.
4.Axial positioning type:
Stationary seat is positioned by cavity and supported by compression and deformation of flexible body, as shown in figure (a). When sealing requirements are strict, two seals can be installed, as shown in figure (b). Anti-rotation pins should be installed under high-viscosity media and/or high-pressure and/or high-speed conditions, as shown in figure (c). The structure made by this kind of support mode  is simple with easy disassembly and good heat transfer. But this kind of support mode has a shortcoming:axial vibration of cavity cannot be absorbed.
