What are the hazards of using a general mechanical seal in a solid-liquid two-phase flow pump?

Due to the existence of abrasive particulate media in solid-liquid two-phase flow, the use of general mechanical seals in solid-liquid two-phase flow pumps often poses the following five hazards:

①The aggravated wear of the sealing end faces. Particles leak into the sealing faces act as abrasive and accelerate the wear of the sealing faces of the mechanical seal.

②The particles on the medium side play the role of blocking. Due to the accumulation and bridging of particles , the movement of the spring, pin and auxiliary sealing ring of the mechanical seal is hindered, resulting in a decrease in the followability and floating of the compensation ring.

③ Atmospheric particle blockage. Since the mechanical seal is conventionally designed , due to the gap between the inner diameter of the sealing surface and the shaft (or shaft sleeve) is small, which means the leaked solid particles cannot be discharged in time. The undischarged particles are prone to accumulate and cause blockage, which hinders the movement of the auxiliary sealing ring of the mechanical seal, resulting in seal failure.

④Abrasion. Abrasion refers to the local bite and tear phenomen on  the surfaces of the sealing elements of the mechanical seal due to the action of abrasive particles. It usually occurs when softer steel or graphite materials are used and caused by the impact of flushing water or sealing fluid. In the presence of particulate media, it occurs more severely;

⑤ Wear of the transmission elements. Since the transmission elements of the mechanical seal such as the drive pin are in the particle medium, the abrasive action of the particles aggravates the wear of the elements themselves during their movement.
