Selection Criteria Of Mechanical Seals For strong corrosive media

21/02/2022
In selection of mechanical seals, strong corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid, chromic acid, sulfuric acid, acetic acid, etc have their own specific standards.

This is determined by characteristics of these media. Characteristics of strong corrosive media are:If the seal is subjected to chemical corrosion, corrosion rate on sealing surface is usually 10 to 50 times surface corrosion rate without friction.

These characteristics determine requirements and selection criteria for mechanical seals as follows:

1. External mechanical seal is adopted.

2. When using built-in seal, spring clip protection layer is adopted.

(1) The larger spring is wrapped in a plastic hose, and both ends are sealed.

(2) Surface of spring is sprayed with an anti-corrosion layer, such as polytrifluoroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, chlorinated polyether, etc.;A large spring should be used, so that coating is not easy to fall off because of large wire diameter.

3.It is important to ensure that mechanical seal is isolated from Leaked fluid. Rotary face with bellows adopts the material of filled PTFE and stationary seat alumina ceramic, and spring should be protected by plastic hose or coating.
