Correct adjustment requires precise measurement and calibration based on the sealing structure, medium pressure, and manufacturer's technical parameters.

The compression capacity of mechanical seals directly affects their sealing performance and service life. The compression amount refers to the distance that the spring is compressed during installation, which determines the initial closing force (end face pressure ratio) of the dynamic ring to the static ring. If the force is not appropriate, it can cause liquid film damage, dry grinding, heating, and even seal burnout. Single end mechanical seals are particularly important for adjusting their compression capacity due to their simple structure and wide application, especially in pump equipment.

2. Adjustment methods and steps

The following is a standard operating procedure based on industry practice summary:
a. Preparation stage
Confirm the sealing model and technical parameters (such as free length, working length).
Clean the shaft, bushing, and sealing chamber, remove burrs, rust, and other foreign objects to prevent affecting assembly accuracy.
b. Measurement and Calculation
Measure the free length of the spring (in an uninstalled state).
Calculate the compression amount based on the "working length" requirements provided by the manufacturer:
Compression amount=free length of spring - working length.
Use calipers or specialized tools to control compression in place during installation.
c. Installation control
After assembling the dynamic ring components, tighten them evenly with the cover bolts and gradually compress the spring to the target value.
Use a feeler gauge to check the parallelism of the cover end face, with an error not exceeding 0.05mm, to avoid eccentric loading.
Ensure that the moving ring can move flexibly axially and automatically rebound after release.
d. Verification testing
After installation, conduct a static pressure test (usually 2-3 kg/cm ²) to check for leaks.
