1. Background
In order to ensure the reliability of mechanical seals in actual operation, static pressure tests are usually required before installation or at the factory to test their sealing ability under static conditions.


2. Test purpose and importance
The core goal of static pressure testing is to simulate the pressure bearing situation of mechanical seals in non operating states, detect potential sealing defects in advance, and avoid leakage accidents after equipment operation. This test can effectively verify the following aspects:
The bonding quality and processing accuracy of the sealing surface
The integrity and installation correctness of auxiliary sealing rings (such as O-rings)
Sealing integrity of the overall structure
Static pressure testing can promptly eliminate leakage risks caused by improper manufacturing, transportation, or installation, and improve the safety and stability of equipment operation.


3. Test implementation methods and steps
According to industry practice, the static pressure test of mechanical seals usually follows the following process:
Preparation stage: Check if all components of the mechanical seal are complete and undamaged; Install the seal correctly into the test fixture or simulation chamber; Connect the pipeline and pressure source.
Pressurization process: Inject the test medium (usually water or oil) into the sealed chamber, slowly increase the pressure to the specified test pressure, and avoid pressure shock.
Pressure observation: Maintain a specified pressure for a period of time (usually 15 minutes or longer), during which closely observe for visible leaks.
Data recording and judgment: Record the pressure, temperature, and leakage rate (if any) during the test process. If there is no leakage or the leakage amount is below the standard limit, it is judged as qualified.
Disassembly and analysis: After the test is completed, the sealing components can be disassembled and inspected for wear to further evaluate their performance.
(Additional explanation) For mechanical seals with double end faces or buffering/isolation systems, corresponding pressure and medium should be applied to the inner and outer sealing chambers according to a specific arrangement during testing.

Correctly conducting static pressure tests can not only effectively prevent leakage accidents, but also extend the service life of seals and improve overall equipment operating efficiency.
