What are the basic principles of the flat crystal detector to test flatness of the mechanical seals

23/12/2022
The flat crystal detector works upon light sources, generally using sodium lamps (λ =0.589 µ m) as a single light source. It works in this way: the white light from the sun is actually composed of seven colours. When the white light shine on tested surface through the flat crystal ,light interference occurs:on different positions of the tested the surface several color interference stripes can be seen, because colorful lights intertwine, interference stripe brightness and clarity are greatly weakened, the image is not clear enough. However,if you use a single light source, which has a single wavelength, image of intertwined light and dark are quite different from dark bands,so that more interference bands can be seen, and the readings more accurate. Monochromatic light requires monochromatic light sources, such as sodium lights, which can also be obtained through natural light through a color filter.

When checking the sealing plane, the measured plane is first close to the flat crystal, both surfaces must be wiped clean, so that the two surfaces form a very thin air film, monochromatic light source through the air film, will produce light and dark interference stripes. If white light (natural light) is used as the light source, several color interference stripes are shown. For detection, the most clear stripe in the color was applied to read. White light can be obtained at any time without accessories.
